Rowan LOVED the Rainbow Fish, The Napping House, and there was a book he just loved when he was quite young [the twins' age] Called Where is Spot, I believe, and it had little flaps to find spot...interactive and held the attention. I Love You Forever and Zoom by Robert Munsch were also quite entertaining.

Hey Lisa,
Take this suggestion for what it's worth since I have a vested interest (my husband is the author/illustrator), but another great book for the toddler-school age set is Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard (and its sequel, Boo Hoo Bird). It's not just me that thinks they're great--they made all of the "best of" lists in their respective years of publication too! Your local library should have copies. Check them out! I'm sure your kids will love them as much ours did/do.
