Although they'll not get the same sleep, etc. they will be in unfamiliar, but interesting territory which will keep them busy exploring and enjoying. Get the kids comfortable and accustomed to sleeping in a tent where it is not as dark or as quiet as their bedrooms. Doing this with the kids at home will make the actual camping trip much more enjoyable for the whole family... and the entire family will get to enjoy the activity even more as you will be able to do it at home as well as in the parks.
